Audience

What is an audience?

An audience is an individual or collective group of people who read or consume any media. For example;
Music (listeners), Literature (readers), Video Games (players)

Why are audiences important?

Without audiences there would be no media, media organisations produce media texts to make profit – no audience – no profit. The mass media is becoming more competitive than ever to attract more and more audiences.

Companies categorise their audiences for example in gender, age etc…
Advertisers also want to target particular audiences. This means producers have to produce a certain type of media. An example of this would be, anglers weekly, this is something aimed at people that enjoy fishing.

  1. Always consider who the audience is for a particular film and why those people would enjoy it. It will help you to develop the skills necessary to entertain your own target audience.
