Martin Scorsese grew up in New York City. His father, Charles Scorsese and mother, Catherine Scorsese both worked in New York's Garment District. His father was a clothes presser and an actor, and his mother was a seamstress and an actress. Martin Scorsese then went onto attended New York University’s film school, making the short films ‘What's a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?’ And ‘It's Not Just You, Murray!’ . His most famous short of the period is the darkly comic ‘The Big Shave’. He has then gone on to make over 17 movies and win many awards. One of them being Shutter Island, where Leonardo DiCaprio stared in a thriller not to be forgotten.
